About Joann Ly, MA, MA

 

I am currently in my second year of clinical experience working under the supervision of Dr. Jinariu. I have years of experience working with adolescents, young adults, and adults. I am competent in treating problems relating to trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, adjustment, self-esteem and intellectual disabilities. I approach my clients through a trauma-informed approach and psychodynamic lens.

 

 

Education & Training

I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) degree from Azusa Pacific University. I earned my Masters of Arts (MA) in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University in 2023 and Masters of Arts (MA) in Psychology from California State University - Los Angeles in 2021. In addition, I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts (BA) in Psychology from California State University - Los Angeles in 2014. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and The Gottman Method (Level 1). I am currently training The Gottman Method (Level 2) and projected to finish by August 2023. Additionally, I have training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing for Substance Abuse, Play Therapy, Child Abuse Assessment and Reporting, Seeking Safety, and Trauamatic Bereavement in children

 

In addition to my clinical training, I have 3 years of experience working as a behavior specialist servicing the San Gabriel Valley area from 2018 to 2021. Through this, I worked with adolescents, young adults, and adults struggling with intellectual disabilities comorbid with depression, schizophrenia, and obsessive compulsive disorder.

 

Outside of my clinical work, I work as the campus wellness coordinator for Whittier College. I approach outreach and programming through the 8 dimensions of wellness (emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, and financial). Providing students and underserved populations with equitable and reliable resources is a commitment I take seriously.
