What to Expect When You Book Treatment

Woman on Phone

1

CONSULTATION

Clients/parents will first participate in a 20 minute FREE consultation to share your concerns and needs and learn about the services offered at Therapy SoCal. We will identify and match you with an appropriate therapist based on your needs. If our services are not appropriate to meet your needs, we will do our best to refer you to an appropriate therapist.

ASSESSMENT PHASE

If you decide to move forward, we will commence the assessment phase of treatment by booking your two-hour intake session. For children, the intake session will involve parents and your therapist only. During the assessment phase we will gather data from your clinical interview, assessment measures, and collaterals you give us permission to contact as needed (teachers, other therapists, etc.). This assessment phase usually involves 2-4 sessions depending on the complexity of your case. For children, the second session will typically be a meeting between the child and therapist to build rapport and gather further data.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT PLANNING

After the assessment phase is completed, your therapist will schedule a feedback session to review your/your child’s diagnosis(es) and to collaborate with you on a treatment plan. We will educate you on the best treatment science has to offer to reduce the symptoms and stressors you/your child are currently experiencing.  We will then recommend the most efficacious treatment informed by clinical trials to help you/your child experience healing and recovery. We will also collaborate with you to create a treatment plan with real-world benchmarks that are meaningful to you. During this phase, we often ask the question, “If therapy were working, what would be different in your/your child’s life?” and use your answer to inform establishing your/your child’s treatment goals.

TREATMENT PHASE

Once we have agreed upon the diagnosis(es) and treatment plan, we will recommend the frequency of treatment (typically weekly) and estimate the length of services so that you can plan accordingly. We will then commence the treatment phase of services, in which we activate the agreed-upon treatment plan and periodically reassess to ensure we are progressing toward the established treatment goals.

MAINTENANCE PHASE

When all treatment goals have been met, we will discuss advancing into the maintenance phase of treatment. During this phase, you/your child are generally experiencing a high degree of confidence in your skills and healing. We often reduce treatment to bi-weekly and then monthly to ensure maintenance of the gains you have made in therapy. Your therapist will collaborate with you to calendar a graduation date and celebrate your achievements.
